We’re inviting you to a relaxing art retreat and active travel holiday to city of Zagreb, Croatia.
5 days and 4 nights in a romantic capital of Croatia Zagreb is central european town rich in history.
This affordable art and travel adventure with a small group (6-10) of your new like-minded friends will bring you a creative vacation filled with art, illustration, daily classes, healthy nutrition, and inspiring discoveries.
The art break welcomes solo travelers and couples, beginners and longer practicing artists. Teacher, Irena Sophia, is flexible and adjusts her classes to the group needs.

You can drive by your own car. In that case you will need to tell us in advance so we can arrange parking for you.
5 days / 4 nights in the local apartments in the city center.
Healthy local croatian menu
Three meals per day breakfast, light lunch and dinner.
Rich breakfast with yoghurts, cereals, porridge bread, jams, honey, eggs, baked goods, fruit, coffee, tea and full lunch.
Please let us know if you are vegetarian so we can plan in advance.
Light lunched catered at our art space.
Get together dinner at a local spot, we choose a good local place, you will not be disappointed.
Guidance from the art teacher
Morning or afternoon art session every day.
One discovery tour of Zagreb old town with a local guide. We will go through the city with local insider tips and recommendations. We will explore mysterious side of Zagreb in a Secret Zagreb Tour.
Visit to Tehnicki Muzej with Cabinet of Nicola Tesla.
Free time in the afternoon and evening with lots of time for exploring, walking or just relaxing.
Tea and coffee available at all times during art classes.
*Retreat package does not include: Your airline transportation , travel / health insurance and it is up to guests to buy it on their own, any extra meals, optional activities and local transportation .
ABOUT ART LESSONS
Art lessons will cover topics as:
Drawing basics
Color theory and exercises
Illustration: Style and Technique
Sketchbook experimentation
Traveling journal on location, depending on weather conditions.

We will use big communal table for creating our artwork. You will be supplied with specially created art supplies package.
We will be working in basic drawing techniques of soft pencils and charcoal, and also cover basic techniques of watercolors and tempera with emphasis on your own traveling journal..
Artist and Teacher
Irena Sophia is an artist currently living in Zagreb, Croatia. She finished the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, majoring in painting. Her style of work is greatly influenced by a combination of vintage illustration, manga, folk art, and modern design.
She is inspired greatly by soft lines, serene scenes, and creating a world of inner quietness and delicacy. She participated in various group shows in Croatia and abroad. She spends her time dedicating herself fully to her art.

ART SUPPLIES
You will be supplied with a specially created art supply package that will include:
Plenty of good quality drawing and watercolor paper, sketching block, watercolor set of 12 half pans, different drawing pencils HB - B8, black charchoal, soft eraser and sharpener.
What to bring:
For idea exercises, a large inexpensive stack of drawing papers, sketchbook you normally use, pens, permanent markers, pencils, brushes, tape and A2 format map to store your artwork .
Please also bring any material you want to use to make your final illustration, which is up to you to decide. You may want to look up reference materials, or do research, so having some kind of web device would also help (laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc).
It is also desirable to bring a camera so you can take photos of locations for reference and later work.
THE GOOD LIFE- FOOD
At the artist retreat we provide traditional and local Croatian meals:
– Self served rich breakfast with yoghurts, cereals, porridge, bread, jams, honey, eggs, baked goods, fruit, coffee, and tea at your apartment.
–Lunch - catered at our art space.
– Dinner- eating out together at a local spot, we choose a good local place, you will not be disappointed.
All of our food is traditional local croatian cuisine. Lots of locally grown seasonal fruit, vegetables, spices and herbs as well locally produced olive oil, cheeses, and meat. Zagreb is famous for its open air markets with tons of fresh produce.
Healthy nutrition is a very important part of healthy lifestyle and we pay a lot of attention and time in preparing it and serving it fresh and delicious for you.
For vegetarians, please let us know in advance so we can plan your meals.
Coffee and tea will be available at all times.
ACCOMMODATION
Our guests stay in a relaxed apartments accommodation that is located in the center of Zagreb, in a peaceful street.
You will get a feeling of local way of life, Zagreb is known for its coffee culture and lassie faire lifestyle ! It is stimulating and relaxing at a same time.
Illustration, drawing classes, and other sessions will be held at communal space and on our outings; and in a case of rain or bad weather they will be moved indoors.
We offer these options of accommodation:
Queen rooms (double room with one queen bed- double occupancy).
Twin rooms ( double room with 2 twin beds - double ocupancy).
Double room ( one double bed - single ocupancy).
You are in apartment with other 2-3 persons and you share bathroom.
Bed linens and towels are provided at the apartment.

ACTIVITIES -FIELD TRIPS
During the art retreat we’ll invite you not only practice drawing and invoking your creativity, but also to explore the beautiful Zagreb. You will have your sketcbook ready to make unique travel journal.
Tour of the Zagreb
Zagreb, Croatia’s northwestern capital, is distinguished by its 18th- and 19th-century Austro-Hungarian architecture. At its center, Upper Town is the site of the Gothic, twin-spired Zagreb Cathedral and 13th-century St. Mark’s Church, with a colorfully tiled roof. Nearby is pedestrian-friendly Tkalčićeva Street, lined with outdoor cafes. Lower Town has the main square, Ban Jelačić, plus shops, museums and parks near by.
We will tour Old town, visit Lotrscak Tower, Old stone gates, Strosmajer Promenade and take a drive in Fenicular.

How to get there:
Zagreb is located in the northwest region of Croatia.
The best airport to fly into is the Zagreb International airport.
We will be meeting you at the airport (we will arrange the exact time and location) and take care of your transportation to the city center.
You can also arrive by bus or by a car.
